The White Lion as Symbol of Archetype of self

May 21, 2019 @ 9:30 PM - 11:00 PM

R80.00
The white lion as symbol of the archetype of the self

Presented by Denise Grobbelaar

Denise equates the white lion to the Jungian concept of the archetype of the Self.

She will illustrate that, similarly to the Self-being the regulating center in the human psyche, lions have a role as an ‘ordering principle’ in the natural order of life on earth. In this talk, she will explore lions’ mythological association with the sun as well as their deep-rooted symbolic significance for the human race since ancient times. She will elaborate on the meaning of the colour white and the importance of white animals in spiritual traditions.

She positions her hypothesis in the context of the ecological perspective of a fundamental interconnectedness, which she sees as essential to the development of consciousness and wholeness. She will illustrate the numiniosity of the hunt in traditional hunting mythologies, which took place in the context of a proper relationship with nature as appose to the current dissociation from the natural world and our own instinctual nature.

More About: The White Lion

Denise will contrast the sacred hunt to the great myth of The Infernal Hunt where the Accursed Hunter perpetually chases transitory worldly objects with an insatiable urge. The speaker will further explore the concept of Wetiko, referring to a cannibalistic spirit driven by insatiable greed and selfish excessive consumption with no regard for others, cannibalizing the life-force. In conclusion, she will elucidate that ‘canned hunting’, a caricature of the sacred hunt, where lions are killed for trophies in organized fenced-in circumstances, is a cannibalizing of the Self and a desecration of nature.
